MBA Association

The Masters of Business Administration Association (MBAA) of Mississippi State University is a non-profit student organization whose purpose is to develop the skills and experiences of the student body beyond the classroom. This enrichment is intended to enhance the lives of its participants and provide a marketable social capacity for future employment. The MBAA schedules a variety of professional events, community service projects, and social activities throughout each semester.

Professional Events

The MBAA has a variety of professional events each semester. Some examples of these events include:

  • The annual "Corporate Career Fair" where all MBAA members are invited to attend. At this event, small groups of students (3 to 5) meet with hiring managers from different companies throughout the region. These companies have job openings in all phases of business: finance, accounting, marketing, technology, managerial and more. Each student has the opportunity to choose particular companies and "sell themselves" to that company's hiring manager. This is an excellent networking event and a great way for students to practice interviewing and communication skills.
  • The Annual Leadership Summit: each year different senior executives from companies across the nation come to MSU and host a number of meetings and "breakout sessions". All MBAA members are encouraged to attend this event.
  • Guest Speakers: several times a year the MBAA arranges to have different guest speakers come into the classroom and talk with the students. Executive managers and owners of companies share some of their experiences with the students.
  • Corporate business trips: members are encouraged to attend trips to different companies. This is a good way to see what exactly is being done within a company's factory or office. It's also a great way to talk with and network with successful business people. In the past the MBAA has offered both domestic and international trips.

Community Service Projects and Charities

Relay for Life

This year the MBA Association is planning on participating in Relay for Life. More details to come later.

Pull Tabs for Charity

The MBAA is currently collecting can tabs to donate to charity. To donate your aluminum tabs, you can place them in the jar located in the MBA Lounge.

Other Service Projects

The MBAA participates in different community service projects throughout the year. Most recently we had a group of students participate in Habitat for Humanity. The students helped renovate an old home in Starkville. The home was being reconditioned to serve as affordable, safe housing for a family in the community.

The MBAA also holds a number of fund raising activities to help raise money for different non-profit organizations in the area. These fund raising activities range from cash donations, business sponsorships, golf tournaments, and other activities that MBAA members have the option to participate in. Early in 2008 the MBAA was able to donate $500 to The Palmer Home for Children. We have set our goals a little bit higher this year and are planning more fundraising events that MBAA members can participate in. Currently we are supporting the following charities: The Palmer Home, the local chapter of the American Red Cross, and Habitat for Humanity. Click here to find out more about these organizations.

Social Activities

MBAA Bowling

Please join us at Bulldog Lanes in Starkville to relax and have a good time. The MBA Association will enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship and friendly competition outside the classroom. Come join us!

Outside of the classroom we like to relax and have a good time with several social events available to members. These events are not only fun away from the classroom, but they also help promote team building skills. In the past our students have participated in paintball teams, Texas Hold'em tournaments (proceeds go to charity), lunch and dinners, restaurant and bar social gatherings, and intramural sports teams such as softball, flag football, racquetball, kickball and dodgeball.

The MBA Association meets once a month on Wednesday’s at noon. The next scheduled meeting is for February 8th. We will also have meetings on March 7th and April 11th. We invite professional guest speakers to come to our meetings and discuss pertinent and current issues happening in the business world. The MBA Association is a great way to network and meet fellow graduate students. This networking opportunity can be used to create lasting relationships that can be beneficial in your classes as well as in the business world in the near future. We do many social and off-campus activities to take a break from all the studying. Lunch is provided at each meeting. We also focus on community service and do our best to be involved in various ways where we can help others. We also have an End of the Semester Celebration in conjunction with the Graduate Studies and Outreach Department.
