MBAA Charities

The MBAA is proud to donate money and time to help individuals and organizations who need support. Typically we select one or two non-profit organizations per year to support. We then brainstorm with several of the association members and College of Business faculty to come up with fund raising ideas. Being business students allows us to treat each one of our fund raising ideas like a "small business" with a goal to generate a positive cash flow. A few ideas that we have used in the past or are currently developing include: lunch cookouts on campus, sponsored 5K runs, alumni golf tournaments, Texas Hold'em tournaments, limited edition logo tee shirt sales, raffles, and more. The current organizations that we are helping are listed below.

American Red Cross

Mississippi State University College of Business MBA Association American Red CrossThe Oktibbeha County Chapter of the American Red Cross has served Oktibbeha County for over 84 years. Since their beginning, they have grown to over 150 volunteers. This local chapter offers all American Red Cross services to Oktibbeha County, and also teaches Health and Safety courses in Winston, Choctaw, and Webster counties. Did you know that a family of four in Oktibbeha county recently lost everything that they owned to a fire? Or that a family of eight in nearby Webster county recently lost everything that they owned to a fire? Donations are needed to help those who are in need.

Habitat for Humanity

Mississippi State University College of Business MBA Association Habitat for HumanitySince its founding in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 250,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. The concept was "partnership housing" -- where those in need of adequate shelter would work side by side with volunteers to build simple, decent houses. The houses would be built with no profit added and no interest charged. Building would be financed by a revolving Fund for Humanity. The fund's money would come from the new homeowners' house payments, donations and no-interest loans provided by supporters and money earned by fund-raising activities. The monies in the Fund for Humanity would be used to build more houses. Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem -- decent housing for all. Today, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 250,000 houses, sheltering more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide.
