Karre Named 2018 Alumnus of the Year for College of Business
1-29-18 - Paul Karre is the former senior vice president of Human Resources and Communications for International Paper, working for IP his entire 41 year career. Paul is a 1974 graduate of the College of Business, and began his career as an industrial relations specialist at IP’s Georgetown, SC mill. It was in Georgetown on his second tour of duty that he met his wife, Mary Jo. After serving in a variety of business and corporate roles, Paul was named director of human resources of IP Europe in 1989. In 2000, Paul was appointed an officer of IP and in 2009 he was elected senior vice president Human Resources and Communications and held that position until he retired in 2015. Paul is a current member and past president of the COB Executive Advisory Board, was named among the Top 100 COB Alumni, was recognized as an Alumni Fellow for the College of Business and serves on the board of the MSU Foundation. Now named as the College of Business Alumnus of the Year, Paul and Mary Jo have graciously provided both an Endowed Fellowship and Professorship to the College of Business.
Paul and Mary Jo have three daughters, two grandchildren, and live in Pawleys Island, SC.
Along with the national alumnus recognition, each of MSU’s eight academic colleges annually honors one graduate for outstanding professional, community and personal success. The 2018 alumni awards banquet will be simulcast live via the Internet, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2.
