STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s College of Business will showcase its internationally recognized family business research by hosting the 2018 Mid-South Management Research Consortium next week.

The two-day [Feb. 23-24] conference will mark the second time MSU has hosted the consortium, during which faculty from institutions across the South will present their management research. MSU management faculty Laura Marler and James Vardaman are co-organizers of the conference.

“We’re excited about the opportunity for management faculty from participating universities to share research interests and for doctoral students to receive advice from established professors and network with future colleagues,” Marler said.

The conference will highlight MSU management faculty’s family business research focus, the College of Business’ new biometric research laboratory and collaborations with other research institutions in the region. Kevin Lowe, a professor in leadership at the University of Sydney and Southern Management Association president, will deliver the keynote address.

MSU’s entrepreneurship and family business research has received significant international attention. Last year, the Journal of Small Business Management ranked MSU No. 6 in the world for the impact of its entrepreneurship research. The same study ranked James J. Chrisman, head of MSU’s Department of Management and Information Systems, as the No. 6 leading individual contributor to entrepreneurship research. The university's Center for Family Enterprise Research has been listed among the best family business research centers in the world by Family Business Review, Chinese Economic Quarterly and the Handbook of Research on Family Business.

Participants from more than 15 universities also will tour MSU’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach and receive a demonstration of the college’s golf simulator, part of MSU’s PGA golf management program.
