The Adkerson School of Accountancy has an internship program to offer students "real world" accounting experience during their college careers. The internships are typically completed during the spring semester of students' senior year. Students receive academic credit for the 10-week internship that begins in January and ends after spring break. Students can elect to return to campus and enroll in two eight-week "mini-courses" during the remainder of the semester, thus earning six hours of college credit while gaining valuable work experience.
Students and their employers are free to modify the timing and length of their internships. Some companies offer summer and fall internships. An internship can also be extended for a full semester.
The benefits of an internship to students are tremendous. Students can expect to earn between $4,000 and $8,000 during the 10-week internship. Students gain experience that cannot be duplicated in the classroom. Through an internship, students can see if a company's philosophy and direction matches their career goals. It is not unusual for our students to receive job offers upon completion of their internships.
Students should expect to begin the internship preparation process during their junior year and interview for their internship early in the fall semester of their senior year.
